Since our landlord, Gail, told us she was retiring and moving back at the end of our lease, we’ve been looking for a new casa. Its been months and we've seen a ton of properties that ended up being epic fails (littered beer cans on the floors (college kids!?!?), using the laundry room for garbage storage = Gross!), weird “pet" smells, houses with amazing pictures online but when arriving at the house we’re informed that the pictures are from another property the landlord owns…nice one…LIARS!). We got to a point we were even considering buying (even though we only plan to be here until I finish my Pharm.D program = 3 years) because of how disappointing and kinda disgusting the rental market was in Kent, Brimfield, and Ravenna.
How we became the proud lessees of this adorable lake house on Cherry Lane is pretty hilarious. To start, the house was originally for sale (not rent), but with Kyle and I being the “Crazy-I-need-a house-yesterday” couple that we were, we called and asked the realtor if the owners would be interested in renting the property….and they were! That was about 2 weeks ago.
Since then, it only became clearer that this house HAD to be the one. We were out of options (except for living under the bridge at I-76 and Rt. 44). So, this weekend the couple that owns the house came in from New York to show the house. We originally were going to see it Sunday afternoon, but that changed quickly when Kyle informed me that there were 10 other couples/families looking at the house this weekend…You know, “The early bird gets the worm”, and I definitely didn’t want that call on Sunday telling us not to worry about coming to see the house because they had already chosen a renter. So instead we went to see the house Friday evening. It was great…wood floors, updated kitchen, 3 bedrooms/2 baths, a garage, a huge front porch, and an added perk…it's a lake house (right on Brady Lake)!! The funny thing is, we both left feeling like it was the end of a “first-date”…Would they like us? Would they pick us? Would they be calling us (to sign a lease on Sunday)? It was nuts! And we were expecting to wait 2 whole days! Lucky for us (and my killer instinct of going on Friday) we signed the lease this morning and were the reason that other people interested in the house received the “don’t worry about coming…” phone call!
So after countless hours of searching, a number of back-and-forth decisions on buying, persuading Gail to extend our lease on Earl just one more month, giving up all hope a few times, getting really angry at Gail for retiring and wanting to move back to Earl A LOT, and accepting we were going to be homeless after September 30th, we finally have a new home (effective October 1st)!!! I am happy to introduce to you….6379 Cherry Lane!!!
